Perspective can be a powerful thing - just ask Barry Gilbey. Having taken a step back from the house scene that he has given so much to over the last twelve years, it certainly seems to have done the trick. And now, after a two year sabbatical, he's intent on turning this rediscovered enjoyment into new material. From early beginnings running and developing the Choo Choo label to worldwide DJ and live performance tours (including residencies in Moscow, Lithuania and the UK), as well as writing music for TV shows such as Top Gear and CSI Miami, Gilbey has remixed and worked with the very best. Most recently, this has come in the shape of his contribution to the new remix album from influential synth-pop pioneers Heaven 17, whilst also writing with up and coming UK house act Supadubz. So Barry is back. Granted he may not have gone far, but he certainly feels it was time well spent. 'I felt I needed to get away for a while to find out what it was that drew me to house music in the first place.' Couple this with the upcoming re-release of the revered Choo Choo Records back catalogue, whilst also being a director of music industry heavyweight Sunshine HQ, and you can't help but feel that this was less of a break and more a case of laying the groundwork for the second part of his career.
